The New Council of Ministers
ciiFollowing the conclusion of General elections to the 15th.Lok Sabha(Parliament) and the announcement of results sub-sequently,the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA)undertook the Government formation exercise.Dr.Manmohan Singh as Prime minister and 19 other Cabinet ministers were sworn in by the President on May 22,2009 and the remaining 59 ministers of all categories were sworn in on 28 May2009.The following is the list of the members of the Council of Ministers categorywise along with
the portfolios allocated to them by the President as per the recorecommendation of the Prime Minister. cii
There are 34 Cabinet Ministers,7 Ministers of state(independent charge) and 38 Ministers of state, total 79 including the Prime minister.When PrimeMinister Manmohan Singh presided over the full house meeting of his 78-member council of Ministers,he will see almost 50 years dividing the oldest and the youngest members of his Government. The Government can add three more members in the Council as the cap on the number of Ministers in the present Parliament is at 82.
