All about Common Admission Form in D.U Colleges in 2009
Few common /frequent talking points emerge out during open day session.Here are some solutions/tips.
A.On common aptitude test (in English)

1.How many Colleges are participating in the common aptitude test in English?
Ans : As of now,12colleges have agreed to admit students in English(hons) through CATE.More are joining.Final list will be available when the application forms are released.
Ans: The forms for CATE will be available from 1st.of June at department of English, Arts faculty, North Campus.It is advisable to fill the common form too for other colleges.

3. 2.When are the application forms for CATE going to be available? If some colleges are not subscribing to cate,how will they admit students in English (Hons) ?
Ans : The Colleges not part of CATE will go by class XII marks.
4.What is the eligibility criteria to sit for CATE ? What will be asked in the entrance test ?
Ans : Any student with minimum 60% aggregate in English plus 3 elective subject with atleast 60% marks in English will be eligible. The test may have objective as well as subjective questions.

B. On Eligibility

1.Can Physical Education be include in the marks of best of four subjects?
Ans : It depends on Colleges ,Some colleges may accept it after deducting a few marks from the aggregate .Others may not consider it at all.


2.Is there any deduction of marks if the student comes from a different state or a board of other than CBSE?
Ans : No,Delhi University does not deduct marks students coming from out side Delhi.All central and state boards are taken at par while admission.

3 .Is there a quota for sikh students at SGTB Khalsa college ?
Ans : No.It only gives some relaxation ,as determined by the admission committee, to the students from sikh community & linguistic minority.

C.On Filling up forms

1.Do we need to submit the common admission form in person?
Ans : No,Admission form does not require any signature or a photograph of the candidate.So,it can be submitted through any one between June1st and June 15.

2.Do we need to attach a copy of the mark sheet with the common admission form?
Ans: No documents need to be attached with the form. All the certificates and mark sheets will be required in original at the time of admission.

3.Do we need to apply for hostel at the time of submission of Admission forms?
Ans : A separate form of the college has to be submitted for a hostel seat. Admission to a college does not ensure a seat in the hostel.
4.What is the procedure to apply through E.C.A/SPORTS quota?
Ans. Along with the centralized form ,a student is required to fill the individual form of the college for admission through ECA/SPORTS QUOTA.Every college conducts its own trial sessions.

*FAQs DURING 'MISSION-ADMISSION' SEMINAR*

StudentsDuring the 2-days Seminar on 'mission-admission' Organised by the Times of India, On 23rd.and 24th of this month(June) at the Sathya Sai auditorium,New Delhi, Following 'Freequent Answering Questions' were raised by the Audience (mostly students.). CampusQ. Can I move to a regular College in second year after pursuing A course from the 'School of Open Learning' in the first year??
A. Yes,provided the collegein which you are seeking admission has vacancy.Colleges also require a minimum percentage of marks in the first year to admit students from School of Open learning.

Q. Will a Degree from SOL have less value than a degree from a regular College in D.U.?
A.No,because the same degree is provided by the University.It does not carry the name of the Institution.

Q.What is the procedure to migrate to D.U.from another University?
A. If you are seeking admission in the first year, you need to produce the transfer certificate issued by your previous college. If you want admission in the next year, D.U will establish equivalence for the course studied in the previous University.The student will have to take the exams of the previous year along with the exams of the current year.

Q.Is there a way to judge which college is better in academics?
Students
A.Try and find out the results of the colleges in various years. Results are a perfect indicator of the performance of any institution.

Q. What is the difference between BBE and Economics (Honours) And which course is better as a career option?
A. Both the courses have their own benefits.While BBE is applied economics,the honours course is purely academic.At the end of the day,It's a personal call

Q.Which is a better choice -Economics (H) or B.Com(H)?
A.Economics honours requires a lot of reading and involves mathematical applications.It is also less scoring. But going by the prospects of the course in the longer run ,Economics stands out.Though B.Com(H)is equally good,The application of Eco(H) is clearly larger and more rewarding in the future.
